Kodeń is a village on the river Bug, on the border with Belarus, with the Basilica of Saint Anne founded by the Sapieha family. In the 17th century Mikołaj Sapieha brought from Rome an image of Our Lady that became the heart of the sanctuary. Since 1927 it has been in the care of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate.
Pilgrims come to the image of Our Lady of Kodeń, venerated as Queen of Podlasie and Mother of Unity. The image was crowned in the 18th century. During the partitions of Poland it was taken away and kept for decades at Jasna Góra, returning to Kodeń in 1927. The sanctuary also has a Calvary.
Kodeń is near Biała Podlaska and Terespol. Because it lies on the border, plan your journey and check the programme of celebrations in advance.
