According to tradition, in the 8th century in the church of Saint Legontian in Lanciano, a monk who doubted Christ's presence in the Eucharist saw during Mass the host change into flesh and the wine into blood. On the site of the old church now stands the church of Saint Francis, run by the Conventual Franciscans.
