Șumuleu Ciuc (Hungarian: Csíksomlyó) is a district of the town of Miercurea Ciuc in Harghita County, Romania, inhabited largely by Hungarian-speaking Székelys. The Franciscans have been present here since the Middle Ages, and at the heart of the shrine is a late Gothic wooden statue of Mary in a Baroque basilica.
Pilgrims pray before the statue of the Mother of God, and many climb the nearby hill where the main open-air services are held. The pilgrimage also has a deep community dimension for Hungarian Catholics. Pope Francis came here in 2019.
