Walsingham is a village in Norfolk, in the east of England. According to tradition, in the 11th century the noblewoman Richeldis de Faverches built here, in response to a vision, a replica of the Holy House of Nazareth. In the Middle Ages it was one of the most important pilgrimage places in England, until the priory was destroyed during the dissolution of the monasteries under Henry VIII.

Pilgrimage revived in the 20th century. The Catholic National Shrine is centred on the medieval Slipper Chapel, while the village is also home to the Anglican Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham. Pilgrims of both communities come here to pray and reflect on the mystery of the Incarnation.

It is a tradition to walk the so-called Holy Mile between the Slipper Chapel and the village. The nearest larger towns are Norwich and King's Lynn. Before travelling, it is worth checking the pilgrimage programmes of both shrines.
