Beauraing is a small town in the province of Namur. Between late 1932 and early 1933, five children from two local families spoke of repeated apparitions of Mary by the garden of a convent school, near a hawthorn tree. In 1949 the Bishop of Namur recognised these events and approved the devotion.
Pilgrims venerate Our Lady of the Golden Heart, named after the radiant heart which, according to the children, she showed them. They pray at the statue under the hawthorn and in the chapel and churches of the shrine, asking for conversion and Mary's intercession.
