The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Sameiro, dedicated to the Immaculate Conception, stands on Mount Sameiro, a little above Bom Jesus do Monte, near Braga. Its origins go back to 1863, when a monument to the Immaculate Conception was raised here, shortly after the proclamation of the dogma. Over time a large church was built, with wide steps and a spacious square for pilgrims.

The faithful come to entrust themselves to the care of Mary Immaculate and to pray before her venerated statue. In 1982 the sanctuary was visited by Pope John Paul II. The hill offers a wide view over Braga and the Minho region.
