The Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus stands on the summit of the hill of Montmartre in Paris. Construction began in 1875 as an expression of a national vow after the Franco-Prussian War, to a design by Paul Abadie. The church was consecrated in 1919. Its white domes are among the most recognisable sights of Paris.
Since 1885 the basilica has kept uninterrupted adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, day and night. Pilgrims come to pray before the Eucharist and to entrust themselves, their families and the world to the Heart of Jesus. The interior is adorned with a great apse mosaic of Christ in glory.
