Šiluva is a small town in Samogitia, in central Lithuania. According to tradition, in 1608 the weeping Virgin Mary with the Child appeared here to shepherds, and soon afterwards a previously hidden image of the Mother of God and documents of the former church were found. The devotion was approved in the 18th century.

Pilgrims pray in the Basilica of the Nativity of Mary before the miraculous image and in the Apparition Chapel, built on the site of the events of 1608. Šiluva is one of the most important Marian places in Lithuania, and Pope St John Paul II visited it in 1993.

The main feast, called Šilinės, takes place in September around the Nativity of Mary (8 September) and lasts several days. The nearest larger towns are Raseiniai and Kaunas.
