The Taizé Community is an ecumenical monastic community in a small village in southern Burgundy. It was founded in 1940 by Brother Roger Schutz, who died tragically in 2005 during prayer in the Church of Reconciliation. The brothers come from many countries and from Catholic and Protestant traditions.
Those who come are mostly young adults, staying a week to share common prayer three times a day, reflect on Scripture and take part in daily life. The simple, repeated chants of Taizé are known in parishes around the world. The community also organises European Youth Meetings as part of the Pilgrimage of Trust on Earth, several times hosted in Poland.
Staying at Taizé requires registration in advance, and there are different arrangements for different age groups. The nearest towns are Cluny and Mâcon.
